How to Play Turn
Turn
The situation clears and you should know how to play Turn. You usually know your odds and can decide whether it’s worth to play or rather pass. Four basic situations are the most popular here, when you have got:
Best cards:
You keep playing and bet (Bet). Then you discourage the players with bad cards from playing which could be dangerous for you in case their hands improved.
Very good but not the best cards:
It will be reasonable for you to wait (Check), if you’re not too afraid that your opponents would get better cards in the succeeding round. Then you have a chance to improve your own hand and you don’t risk too much. However, keeping in mind the fact that in the next round your opponents could get better cards, and you can already win, you should raise and try to frighten them: Raise.
Bad cards which can become the best in the next round:
You continue the game (Check or Call), and count on better cards in the succeeding round.
Weak cards:
You pass without any hesitation (Fold).
As you have played aggressively in the previous rounds showing the power of your cards and the Pot is already high enough, in Turn it’s usually better to play more calm without raising a bet (Raise). However, you can raise a bet if you haven’t done it in the previous rounds, as you have been collecting the cards for better hand and you have just got it (for example: Straight, Flush) or your cards are quite strong and at the same you’ve got a chance for the best hand in the next round (for example: you’ve got two Aces and a chance for Flush). Therefore you raise the bank and at the same time decrease the number of players who could beat you if the expected card does not appear. The situation is slightly different if some other player raised a bet (Raise). If so, your decision should depend on the opponent’s character. If he is a tight player who rarely bluffs, it’s very probable that he’s got the best hand and you should pass. However, if the bank is very high and you’ve got a chance to improve your hand and make it the best in the next round, you can risk and enter (Call). In River, when you didn’t get the expected card, you should not hesitate and pass (Fold).
