Poker Tips&Tricks
Many experienced players apply some tricks in order to increase their odds or to make the game easier. They often apply some techniques almost automatically, and they don’t even realize that it can be extremely interesting for an inexperienced player. I present some of them:
Before playing:
- starting the game you are supposed to have enough money for 100 big bets at minimum,
- never play with the money you are not supposed to loose - not because you would remain without a penny, but it’s all about the fact that in such situation you instinctively play in different way than you should: you brake the rules, and you are not objective,
- play only with the loose opponents - the specification of the table that you should look for in value - medium,
- try not to play with less than eight players - if you don’t win, at least you will loose your money more slowly,
- start to play with money as soon as possible, cents even - a so called Play Money game - using no money can teach you plenty of wrong habits because of it’s completely different character (play it only to get to know the rules).
During the game:
- don’t bluff in Low-Limit games - you can bluff (and it’s a common procedure) in No-Limit games,
- don’t play only because you’ve received two cards of the same suit - always take under consideration their strength and the possibility to compose a hand,
- recognize the tight players as fast as possible - they are the most dangerous for you (try to make them pass as often as possible, if they don’t do that, beware because that means they have good cards),
- avoid playing with maniacs - the players who adore to raise the bets and do it very often,
- the best situation is to be the best at a table - if you constantly loose with a relevant player, change the table,
- before you start to play observe the play for at least a few minutes,
- while playing: never watch TV, don’t listen to the music, don’t eat chips and no alcohol is allowed, don’t play with your kid, don’t... I hope you already know what it’s about - if you enter a game to succeed, you should just play and only play, nothing else matters,
- play only for an hour and than take a short break no matter if you are winning or loosing - this will help you to be objective,
- don’t worry if you don’t get a proper card for a long time, sometimes you need to wait for it even for over an hour,
- Check-Raise - apply it only when you have very good cards and when you are sure that someone after you will raise a bet (thanks to it you will earn more, but if nobody raises, you will give them a card for free),
- If it’s hard for you to guess the other players’ cards, always assume that they have got either a Figure plus one other card from a Flop or a Figure from a Flop - always assume less optimistic scenario. It will make easier to define your chance to win.
