Clay Poker Chips
Over the years, poker chips have come a long way from its plastic days. Earlier, plastic poker chips were the only option, but you find a wide range of chips these days available at different prices.
Plastic poker chips
If someone has no difficulty in handling plastic poker chips, he/she can easily procure them from the market. These chips are not heavy and more importantly, not expensive also. You can choose from the available varieties at any big store such as Wal-Mart or Target. One big advantage of these plastic poker chips is that they last long.
Clay poker chips, a superior experience
If you are not happy with the lightweight plastic version and want to play with heavier chips, you can use either clay poker chips or composite poker chips. These chips are available in different weights, usually in 7.5 grams, 8.5 grams, 9.0 grams, 11.5 grams, 13.0 grams and 13.5 grams.
Because of their heaviness, clay poker chips or composite chips offer you a superior tactile experience and produce an attractive sound when they click against one another. You can choose the weight according to your own convenience. The most popular weight, however, seems to be the 11.5 grams although you may opt for a different weight if that suits you better.
Preference for occasional players
If you are only an occasional player, you can easily do with the 9-gram chips. The problem is that they are not available in too many designs. But the 11.5-gram chips allow you to choose from various attractive designs. The 13- and 13.5-gram varieties cost more because of their extra weight.
If you are looking for clay poker chips or the composite ones, you can get them in single, two or three colors. The single-colored ones are the least expensive among them and three-color chips the costliest. The two-color chips are, however, extremely good-looking and available at reasonable prices.
Designs and sets vary
The clay or composite poker chips are available in various attractive designs, including Suited, Diamond and Dice that are quite standard. Each of them has its own beauty and the choice is yours. There are other available designs as well, some of them being exclusive creations of their manufacturers. Before choosing a design, have a careful look at them as there might be subtle differences in spite of the designs having the same name.
As regards the number of chips to be bought, you can choose from sets of 300 and 500 although sets of 1000 chips are also available in the market. Sets containing chips numbering 200, 400 and 650 etc. are also not difficult to find. If there are five players, a set of 300 should be fine. But if there are seven or more players, it is better to have a set of 500.
A good quality set of chips may be on the expensive side. But, on the flip side, you get also a carrying case (usually made of aluminum), a deck or two of cards, five dice, and occasionally a dealer button for free when you buy a set.
So, you have several options such as plastic poker chips, clay poker chips etc. in various weights and designs. Just chosssose the one that suits you best.
